Meet Captain Hara Gabrielle
Meet Captain Hara
I can still remember the first time I fell asleep on the white sandy shore of the Blackwater River. I was just a teenager, but something about that experience changed me. Surrounded by quiet water, towering pines, and the sounds of nature, I felt a connection I had never experienced before.
From that moment on, these waters became my refuge. Whenever life felt busy, uncertain, or overwhelming, I found my way back to the Blackwater. The Blackwater River, the Yellow River, and the surrounding estuaries are where I found peace, perspective, and a place where I truly belonged.
In 2022, after my youngest child left home to serve in the United States Marine Corps, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I sold my house, bought a houseboat named Wild Woman, and moved aboard at a marina on Blackwater Bay. For the next four years, I woke up every morning surrounded by the waters that have shaped so much of my life. Today I still call that marina home, living just steps from the bay that continues to inspire me every single day.
Those years living on the water deepened more than my appreciation for nature—they sharpened my understanding of it. Successful inshore fishing isn't about luck. It's about reading tides, understanding seasonal fish movements, watching weather patterns, finding clean water, locating bait, and making thoughtful decisions throughout the day. Every trip I run begins long before my guests arrive, and every decision is made with one goal in mind: giving us the best opportunity to succeed with the conditions we're given.
As a U.S. Coast Guard–licensed 25-Ton Master Captain with a towing endorsement, CPR certification, and certification as an American Sailing Association sailing instructor, I believe preparation, safety, and professionalism are just as important as fishing knowledge. Whether you're stepping onto a boat for the first time or you've spent a lifetime chasing redfish and speckled trout, my goal is to make you feel welcome, confident, and well cared for.
Now it's my passion to create opportunities for others to experience what these waters have given me. Through fishing, exploring, and simply slowing down, I hope every guest has the chance to reconnect with nature, the people they love, and the things that truly matter.
I believe there's something healing about being on the water. It reminds us to breathe a little deeper, laugh a little more, and appreciate the beauty that's been here all along. Just as importantly, I hope to inspire others to protect and preserve this incredible way of life so future generations can experience the same sense of wonder, peace, and connection these waters have given me.
Sharing my home waters with others is more than my profession—it's a privilege.
Whether we're chasing redfish across a quiet grass flat, adjusting our plans to changing tides, watching dolphins surface beside the boat, or celebrating someone's very first fish, my hope is that every guest leaves with more than a successful day of fishing. I hope they leave with a deeper appreciation for these incredible waters and memories they'll carry with them long after they return home.
It's an honor to share my home waters with you.
Conservation efforts
Coastal Conservation & Oyster Reef Stewardship in Pensacola
At Redemption Fishing Co., conservation isn’t a talking point—it’s part of how we live, work, and share the water with others.
We have a deep passion for protecting and maintaining the waterways that make life on the Gulf Coast so special. That starts with a hands-on appreciation for oyster farming and reef stewardship—one of the most powerful and natural ways to improve the health of our local ecosystems.
Oysters are more than just part of the fishery—they are essential to the balance of our bays and rivers. Often called “ecosystem engineers,” they build reef structures that create habitat for hundreds of marine species, from baitfish to redfish and speckled trout.
They also act as natural water filters. A single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day, removing excess nutrients, sediment, and algae—helping keep our waters clearer, healthier, and more productive.
Healthy oyster populations don’t just support marine life—they help stabilize shorelines, reduce erosion, and protect the very environments we depend on.
That’s why we believe conservation starts with awareness.
On our trips, we take the opportunity to share what we know—helping families and guests better understand how simple actions can make a real difference. From respecting habitats and practicing responsible fishing, to supporting reef restoration and keeping our waters clean, every small effort adds up.
Our goal is to give you more than just a great day on the water—we want you to leave with a deeper connection to it.
Because when people experience these places the right way, they start to care about protecting them—and that’s how lasting conservation really happens.
